Malay language or Bahasa Melayu is the language of a large group of Southeast Asian people. It is widely spoken in Malaysia, Indonesia Singapore andBrunei though each country has its own standard. The Malay language is part of the Malayo-Polynesian or Austronesian language family. The language is now officially known as Bahasa Malaysia("Malaysian language") in Malaysia, but it is constitutionally called Bahasa Melayu in Singapore, Brunei.
The script that is used to write Malay is Latin and referred to as Rumi officially. The Malay language includes elements of Sanskrit and Arabic. These elements entered the language through contact with culture and religions ofIndia and the Arab world.
